I have to honestly say that this was my favorite trip we have ever taken.  Thankfully all of my tour arrangements went according to plan so we didn’t have any surprises.  I am thankful for the great hotel staff that we encountered in Vietnam.  It was very easy to make city tour and airport/train pick up arrangements with them.

May 17: Fly from US to Taipei via China Airlines

May 18: Arrive in Taipei in evening.  Stay at Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport for overnight.

May 19: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City from Taipei in the afternoon.

May 22: Cu Chi Tunnels

May 23: Morning flight from Ho Chi Minh City to DaNang on Vietnam Airlines.

May 24: Day trip to Hoi An.

May 25: Take the Reunification Express Train SE20 (Overnight Train) from DaNang to Hanoi. (18:40 – 12:33 Next day)

May 26: Arrive in Hanoi.  Stay in the Hanoi Legacy Hotel–Hang Bac (108 Hang Bac Street, Hoan Kien District)

May 27: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Thang Long Water Puppet Show

May 28: Overnight Train from Hanoi to Lao Cai via Sapaly Train (21:50 – 7:00 next day)

May 29: Arrive at Lao Cai train station.  Take shuttle to Sapa.  Students stay in the Thai Binh Hotel (5 Ham Rong Street) and Paradis View Hotel (018 Pham Xuan Huan). My family stayed at the Cat Cat View Hotel (046 Fan Xi Pang Road) in their 2 bedroom apartment.

June 13: Wake up early to go to the Can Cau Morning market (on Saturday mornings).  After we have seen enough of the market, travel to Bac Ha. Stay a night at Ngan Nga Hotel.

June 14: Explore the Bac Ha market.  Travel back to Sapa.

June 30: Wake up early, take shuttle to Lao Cai/Hekou border station. Cross in to China.  Go through Hekou border control. Meet up with shuttle driver to Wenshan, China. Drive to Wenshan. Stay in the LongCheng Business Hotel (Jiuxiao Fortune Center, Dongfeng Road).

July 7: Take bus from Wenshan to Kunming.  Stay in the Grand Park Kunming Hotel.

July 10: Overnight train from Kunming to Lijiang. Made train reservations with Niko Huang from chinahighlights.com. (Niko’s email: niko@chinahighlights.me)

July 11: Arrive in Lijiang. Stay in the Yunxiaogong Hostel.

July 12: Take a tour vans early in the morning to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. (Arrange with hostel). Spend all day at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, then return to Lijiang in the afternoon.

July 13: Take bus from Lijiang to Shangri-La. Stay in the Shangri-La E-Outfitting Hostel.

July 14: Go to the amazing Songzanlin Monastery.

July 15: Fly back to Kunming (12:35-13:35). Made flight arrangements on Ctrip.com. Stay in the Home Inn (152 Cuihu S Rd, Kunming).

July 16: Return to Wenshan via bus.

August 5: Travel to Kunming. Stay at the Kunming Shuncheng Space Apartment.

August 6: Take overnight train K166 to Xi’an (depart at 19:32 on Aug 6, arrive 6:12 on Aug 8)

August 8: Arrive early in Xi’an. Take bags to the hotel. Take tour bus to the Terracota Warriors.

August 9: Take overnight train Z44 from Xi’an to Beijing Xi West Station (19:15 – 8:26)

August 10: Arrive in Beijing.

August 13: Take overnight train T109 from Beijing Station (北京火车站) to Shanghai Station (上海火车站) (19:33 – 10:44)

August 14: Arrive in Shanghai.

August 17: Fly back to the US.
